Abstract

Time in the narrative is one of the basic and inseparable components on the basis of which the course of the narrative proceeds, and by visualizing it in the story, one can understand how the structure of time and its importance in narratives. This issue has come to the attention of scholars in recent decades, with Gerard Genet, a French structuralist critic, as its predecessor. She distinguishes between text time and story time, and divides it into three parts as order, continuity, and frequency. In the present study, Ghazi Al-Qasebi's novel Al-Janiyah has been studied and comparatively analyzed from the perspective of the components of narrative time, based on Gerard Genet's theory. One of the most important findings of this paper is that Ghazi Al-Qusaybi has been able to create a multi-layered story with an unprecedented theme by placing the narrative design on a non-linear structure and with the help of techniques such as sequence, continuity and frequency. These techniques have played important functions in the structure of the novel. Timelessness, with its two past and future states, has played an important role in introducing new characters in the story, getting to know their past, discovering the nature of relationships between characters, motivating the novel's events, and motivating the reader to follow future events. The category of continuity of time in various forms such as delay, omission, summary, and theatrical scene has also been effective in accelerating and slowing down events as well as expressing the ideology of the novel's characters. Single-axis frequency also has a high prevalence in this story compared to other types of frequencies.

Abstract [
