Abstract

Identity is considered one of the most important components of human personality and it is a position where "self" and "I" are placed against others. In this way, identity is a fluid thing, and this fluidity, while causing its dynamism, also exposes it to danger. A danger that can cause an identity crisis. Iraq is one of the countries that have a special civilizational, cultural and historical background, but the identity crisis has become one of the concerns of this nation today. Its main factor is related to the political and social conditions of several decades in Iraq. The novel "Azef Al-Ghouyum" written by Ali Badr is one of the novels that present the identity crisis of the immigrant character such as "Nabil" in contrast to the two cultural systems of the East and the West. The results of the research indicate that the components such as the internal contradictions of the immigrant, living with the virtual self instead of the real self, the change of linguistic identity and the national and cultural attitude have been well manifested in this novel. The main character of the novel broke away from there due to social problems and by migrating to the land of exile, he faced an environment that has always challenged his existence to the point where he became alienated from himself and forgot his connection with the Mesopotamian civilization. Search for your dreams in the land of the West. The result of this incident is cutting off ethnic memories and alienation from one's own culture.

Abstract [
